DHL Partners with Neighborhood Postal Centers to Sponsor Nationwide Thanksgiving Food Drive; Donations to Benefit America's Second Harvest

PLANTATION, Fla. --- November 1 --- DHL, the world's leading logistics and express delivery company, today announced that in partnership with Neighborhood Postal Centers, a national network of independent shipping centers, it will sponsor a nationwide Thanksgiving food drive to collect canned goods, non- perishable food items, and cash donations to benefit America's Second Harvest - The Nation's Food Bank Network, the largest hunger-relief organization in the United States.

From Nov. 1 through Nov. 18, approximately 1,000 Neighborhood Postal Center stores across the United States will serve as collection points for donations of food items to be delivered to the needy for Thanksgiving. During the week of Nov. 21, DHL will leverage its extensive U.S. transportation network to deliver the donated goods to more than 200 food banks in the America's Second Harvest Network. Local donations will be delivered to local food banks, ensuring that local community food banks are recipients of the generosity of their neighbors. America's Second Harvest Member food banks will then coordinate the distribution of the donated food to more than 50,000 local soup kitchens, shelters and other locations in time for preparation of Thanksgiving dinner.

"DHL's logistical expertise and transportation network allows us to support numerous charitable initiatives around the globe," said Kay Hart, senior vice president of corporate communications for DHL. "This Thanksgiving food drive is our chance to help ensure that everyone across America can experience the generosity and spirit of sharing that characterizes this holiday. These efforts are particularly significant when so many Americans are displaced and in need as a result of the devastation caused by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita last month."

In addition, DHL will make a corporate contribution towards the purchase of ingredients for Thanksgiving dinners such as vegetables, fruit, peanut butter, grape jelly, cereal, stews, soups, chili, pasta, and other items, to be distributed by America's Second Harvest at member food banks along the Gulf Coast which sustained damage from Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

Neighborhood Postal Centers is a group of independent retail shipping locations affiliated with Associated Mail & Parcel Centers (AMPC) which offers DHL express delivery and shipping services. In 2004, DHL launched a nationwide program with AMPC and current licensees of the group's consumer brand, the Neighborhood Postal Centers (NPC). Under DHL's Preferred Provider Program, participating retail shipping stores adopted DHL as a preferred transportation provider for express delivery and shipping services, and promoted DHL services to their customers. To date, more than 1,600 independent retail mail and parcel centers are participating in the program.

"We are delighted to be partnering with DHL and are pleased to be playing an integral role in this Thanksgiving food drive initiative," said Brandon Gale, AMPC president and spokesperson for Neighborhood Postal Centers. "Although a national program, this food drive is entirely representative of the commitment to local support on the part of Neighborhood Postal Center stores. With over 2,200 stores spread throughout 50 states, we represent a dynamic network of independent business owners that are willing to act in concert with one another for those in need, and we are proud that the donations collected by our individual stores will benefit the needy in their respective communities."

How the public can help

Donations of canned goods and non-perishable food items including Thanksgiving dinner ingredients (e.g., canned vegetables, stuffing, gravy) and other high protein sources (e.g., peanut butter, tuna fish, beans) can be dropped off at local Neighborhood Postal Centers across the country. "Hunger is a tragedy every day in the United States, and the holidays are a time to remember that millions of individuals and families may not have a seat at a table to enjoy a meal," said Robert Forney, president and CEO of America's Second Harvest. "DHL's Thanksgiving food drive will help us bring hope to many of our neighbors in communities around the country this holiday season; and we are most grateful for the support of DHL and the Neighborhood Postal Centers on this important effort. We believe this initiative will make a positive impact on local communities across the country."
