Statement on Bogus Fundraising Solicitations from America's Second Harvest

CHICAGO --- September 7, 2005 --- America's Second Harvest – The Nation's Food Bank encourages those who wish to donate to its hunger- relief efforts for the victims of the Katrina Hurricane to contribute directly to the organization by phone, mail or through its web site.
The organization is aware that unscrupulous individuals may be using the hurricane to solicit funds on behalf of national charities involved in disaster relief efforts. While we know of no specific offenses against America's Second Harvest, the organization is taking a proactive approach to protect donors as much as possible.
Contributions may be made directly to America's Second Harvest in the following ways:
| By Mail: | America's Second Harvest Hurricane Katrina Response and Recovery Fund 35 East Wacker Drive, Suite 2000 Chicago, IL 60601 |
| Web site: | www.secondharvest.org |
| Phone: | 800-344-8080 or 877-817-2307 |
Many corporations are partners of America's Second Harvest and are collecting donations through employee matching programs. Ask your employer if America's Second Harvest is an option in your company.
All America's Second Harvest donations for Hurricane Katrina relief are going directly to support organizational disaster relief efforts. Funds are kept separate from other funding and are earmarked for Hurricane Katrina relief use only.
