As shown in Table 13.2.1N, from a monetary
standpoint, the contributions made by volunteers staff to the A2H system are
very extensive.

1. The hourly wage used here ($7.18) is the midpoint of the current minimum wage ($5.15) and the average hourly earning from service occupations ($9.21). The latter was obtained from U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics: "National Compensation Survey: Occupational Wages in the United States, 1999." June 2001, Table 1, p. 30.
Key findings are:
- The value of volunteer time in pantry programs in a typical week is in excess of $7.7 million.
- Comparable estimates for kitchen and shelter programs are $2.7 million and $1.6 million, respectively.
